Compensation DOE: $79,133 – $96,575 
Full-Time, year-round position (52 Weeks)
Starting June 16, 2025 

Position Description: Wayzata Public Schools is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Community Ed team. The Finance Specialist reports to the Director of Community Ed and is responsible for providing oversight to Community Ed registration and billing, the proper recording and reporting of the Community Ed financial activity, and assisting with implementing and monitoring the department’s budget.

Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Oversee registration, billing, and accounts receivable software, including county child care assistance, scholarships, for all Community Ed programs. Oversee Hennepin County reimbursement processes, including monitoring student authorizations, tracking attendance, billing and payment follow ups. Oversee collections for overdue accounts, including communication with families. Oversee department purchasing and disposal processes.
  • Monitors budgets and expenditures and assists with communicating budget status, fiscal affairs, and budget projections. Assist with the annual budgeting process and advise on adjustments throughout the year. Support department staff in viewing and monitoring program budgets and reports. Serve as a financial resource for the department on budgeting, grants and expenditure tracking.
  • Prepares, maintains, and/or distributes spreadsheets, lists, correspondence, files, records, and other documentation; work may also involve maintaining and updating databases, ensuring informational accuracy.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Licenses Requirement: CPA preferred, but not required. Valid driver’s license required. 

Training and Experience Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Business or accounting background and/or previous school district accounting experience 

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Principles and practices in assigned area of responsibility
  • Federal and state accounting regulations, procedures, and accountability standards
  • Enrollment principles and practices
  • Basic procurement and inventory management principles
  • Customer service principles
  • Grant fund and special fund procedures
  • Principles of record keeping and records management

Skills Requirements:

  • Interpret and apply accounting standards, procedures, and requirements
  • Review, analyze, and verify financial documents
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and reconcile discrepancies
  • Review and verify data and financial reports for accuracy
  • Operate personal computers and specialized accounting software effectively
  • Perform mathematical calculations and data entry with precision
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
  • Communicate effectively through verbal and written means
  • Creating correspondence and reports
  • Managing databases
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
