Independent Contractor Opportunity | Remote | ~10 Hours per Week

The Minnesota Community Education Association (MCEA) is seeking a detail-oriented, tech-savvy Independent Contractor to provide flexible administrative, communications, and event-support services that help advance community education across Minnesota.

About the Opportunity

Contract Type: Independent Contractor
Estimated Hours: Approximately 10 hours per week (flexible)
Compensation: $23–$25 per hour
Annual Budget: Up to 520 hours
Location: Remote within Minnesota (with optional on-site support for major events)
Priority Application Deadline: March 13, 2026

The contractor will determine their own schedule, workflow, and tools, provided agreed-upon deliverables and timelines are met.

This role directly supports member engagement, professional development operations, communications systems, and data accuracy across the association.

Scope of Services

Communications Support

  • Schedule and post basic social media content
  • Monitor engagement in the HUB and social platforms
  • Track monthly engagement metrics
  • Make simple website and event calendar updates
  • Gather member testimonials
  • Post weekly Career Opportunities
  • Support new-member onboarding communications

Event & Member Support

  • Generate and send CEU certificates
  • Support event registration logistics
  • Prepare digital resource orders and invoices
  • Provide optional on-site support for major events
  • Manage workflow to meet event timelines

Data & Systems Maintenance

  • Conduct quarterly data audits
  • Maintain accurate membership records
  • Manage segmented mailing lists
  • Send renewal reminders
  • Audit digital platforms for accuracy
  • Assist with digital archiving

Administrative Support

  • Monitor general inboxes and respond to routine inquiries
  • Add job postings and coordinate invoicing
  • Support digital organization projects

Who We’re Looking For

We are seeking a contractor who is:

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Comfortable working independently and managing deadlines
  • Clear and professional in written communication
  • Reliable, responsive, and systems-minded
  • Interested in supporting community education and mission-based work

Required Experience

  • Working knowledge of Canva (ability to create and edit simple, clean graphics)
  • Experience scheduling or posting content on social media platforms

Preferred Experience

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace
  • Experience making updates in WordPress or similar website platforms
  • Experience using membership platforms or online community systems
  • Experience with Smore or similar newsletter tools
  • Experience building or managing forms through platforms such as Wufoo

Experience supporting nonprofits, associations, school districts, or similar organizations is helpful but not required.
