Job Summary
The Recreation & Aquatics Specialist is primarily responsible for the supervision and implementation of the Orono aquatics programs, and also plays a crucial supporting role in the supervision and implementation of recreation programs alongside the Recreation & Summer Program Coordinator. This role is vital in delivering high-quality programming, fostering community connections, and embodying our commitment to lifelong learning and service.

Key Responsibilities

Aquatics Program Ownership:

  • Supervise and implement all Orono aquatics programs to ensure high-quality and engaging experiences.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, supervise, and schedule aquatics staff, fostering a team that embodies Excellence and Collaboration.
  • Monitor and evaluate program staff and program quality, consistently striving for high standards.
  • Provide technical expertise, training, and coaching to aquatics staff when needed, supporting continuous improvement.
  • Manage a comprehensive training schedule for staff and assist in accessing appropriate training and certification.
  • Step in as needed to support Aquatics program staff or program coverage to ensure seamless operations.
  • Maintain positive relationships with district staff, vendors, and community members, embodying our value of Connection.
  • Provide timely and responsive customer service, leading with Empathy in all interactions.
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the pool to ensure compliance with safety standards, regulations, and district policy.

Recreation and Summer Program Support:

  • Assist the Recreation & Summer Program Coordinator in the development and delivery of summer and recreation programs, demonstrating Collaboration.
  • Manage registration and enrollment information for recreation programs as directed by the Recreation & Summer Program Coordinator.
  • Provide timely and responsive customer service to internal and external customers (coaches, teachers, parents, students).
  • Assist in the management of all recreation logistics including, but not limited to, transportation, rosters, parent and coach communication, equipment and apparel orders, and supply needs, ensuring a smooth and well-run program.
  • Support summer programs as directed by the Recreation & Summer Program Coordinator. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Recreation & Summer Program Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Red Cross Lifeguard and Professional Rescuer/First Aid/AED certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Experience in program coordination and supervision.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others.
  • Strong technology skills to manage program administrative tasks.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in-person and in writing.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with strong organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
  • AEA Aqua Exercise Certifications.
  • Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor.
  • Familiarity with Registration Management Systems and Google Suite.
     

COMPENSATION
$50,000-$55,000 annually
