Dept/Div: Community Services and Recreation FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

General Definition of Work:  Performs intermediate administrative work assisting the Director with creating and deploying marketing strategies and materials that enhance the department or District’s presence in the community to increase awareness and engagement in events, activities, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Director of Community Education and Recreation.

Creates and oversees the marketing and communications plan for Community Services and Recreation including management of related websites, social media platforms, email marketing, flyers, catalogs and newsletters. Designs and creates catalogs, flyers, presentations and newsletters; generates email, social media and website marketing campaigns.

Coordinates with office staff to provide centralized marketing and promotion for events in all platforms.

Guides the department through target marketing strategies and assists with implementing those strategies. Provides photography or videography services for events or activities.

Provides regular data checks on website content, refreshing content when needed.

Establishes relationships with various department programs to develop a strong working knowledge of programs, events, timelines, and marketing needs. Assists with gathering and providing information for data requests.

Serves as a liaison between the department and other District departments to prepare consistent communication and marketing throughout.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Thorough knowledge of public information and principles and practices of marketing and design; thorough knowledge of writing and editing; thorough knowledge of news writing style and familiarity with a variety of communication platforms; general knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite; general knowledge of Publisher and other design studio applications; thorough skill in the use of computer equipment; ability to write public information reports and releases; ability to operate various computer based applications and tools; ability to operate standard profession specific tools and software systems; ability to take, edit and store digital photography files; ability to gather and analyze facts on a variety of subject matter and to assemble and present concise reports and presentations; ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school officials, associates, and the general public.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in marketing, or related field and minimal experience working in a communication or marketing based position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.SAFE System © October 2010

Dept/Div: Community Services and Recreation FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Physical Requirements

This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions and occasionally requires standing, walking, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting; work requires close vision and color perception; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines, operating motor vehicles or equipment and observing general surroundings and activities; work has no exposure to environmental conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).

Special Requirements
