President's Message

Dear Colleagues and Community Education Professionals;

I am so honored to be a part of a member organization that supports professionals like you in the field. As a professional organization, MCEA promotes excellence in the field through professional development, legislative advocacy, legal assistance and program services. Peter Drucker taught that to achieve results we have to use all the available strengths, as these strengths are the true opportunities. "The unique purpose of an organization is to make strength productive," he wrote. MCEA has the bounty of opportunities found in the strengths of our board, staff and members, and the unique purpose of the board to build exceptional excellence. It is the many hours of service from our member volunteers which allow us to offer high quality conferences and professional training opportunities, provide legislative advocacy, mentor new community educators, serve on numerous state wide committees, and support quality communications with the membership. We thank you for making your strengths ‘available’ so that we may achieve the desired results.

It is a very exciting time in the history of Community Education. Our communities and schools are changing across the state; with them, the work of our profession is also changing.  A critical component of MCEA is continually providing leadership to meet the needs of our changing communities. The goals of the board reflect that work. The goals demonstrate our demand to be more engaged with other educational leaders and strategic thinkers; to develop resources that members can utilize to respond to diversity in their communities in order to create inclusive communities; and to strengthen resources for new leadership and professionals in the field.

I believe that we have the vision of what we are capable of becoming as a membership organization and as a service to the field.  Thank you for your part in our vision for Minnesota Community Education and I can't wait to see what we will achieve together.
