Early Childhood Parent Educator

Qualifications: MN Teaching Licensure in Parent Education preferred. Bachelor’s degree in
Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Social Work or related field.
Duties to include: Plan, design and deliver curriculum that addresses all areas of early
childhood and parent development. Creatively lead and facilitate discussion groups on a wide
variety of topics relating to child development and parenting.

Position: Part-time. Schedule varies

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications

Early Childhood Family Education Parent Educator Position Description:
The Parent Educator is responsible for developing lesson plans and facilitating parent
groups. They will discuss and explore family needs, parenting skills, and specific parenting
issues with parents. The Parent Educator researches, interprets and presents current
information of family issues, serves as a resource to parents and provides referral information,
as needed. The Parent Educator is under the supervision of the Early Childhood Program

Job Summary:
1. Plans, designs and facilitates curriculum that addresses all areas of the early
childhood learning standards regarding child and parent development using the
Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework.
2. Observes and monitors the cognitive and emotional development of children
through observation of play and social interactions. Meets with parents to discuss
any developmental issues or concerns and facilitates referral to other services, if
3. Establishes a rapport with parents and offers support, behavioral strategies and
resources to promote and facilitate the development and strengthening of their
parenting skills and understanding of the cognitive and emotional development of
their children.
4. Models and teaches parents effective behavioral strategies in dealing with their
children and addressing their needs. Makes follow up calls to parents to monitor
specific needs and concerns.
5. Collaborates with staff on curriculum which includes best practices for Early
Childhood Family Education classes.
6. Creates a climate of trust and safety which includes the importance of privacy and

 Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood education, early childhood special education, social work or related field.
 Licensed by the State of MN in Parent Education preferred.
 Knowledge of parent education, adult learning and the Parent Education Core Curriculum Framework.
 Ability to work effectively with children and parents.
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with program coordinator and staff, district personnel and students.
 Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
 Evidence of self-motivation, enthusiasm, patience, problem solving and flexibility.
 Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills.
