Dakota Prairie Adult Basic Education is a partner program of Farmington and Randolph Community Education and Northfield Public Schools’ Community Services.
14 hours per week/2 days per week
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:15 am to 11:45 am AND 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm + prep time. The morning and evening classes are held at the Meadowview Community Education site in Farmington.
The ABE/ESL teacher provides English reading, writing, speaking, and listening instruction to students who are 17 and older and not enrolled in school. Duties include planning lessons, monitoring and assessing student progress on an ongoing basis, participating in the intake process as requested,
creating Individual Learning Plans with students, and collecting, recording and reporting all necessary information related to students in a timely manner.
Provide instruction to adult English language (ESL) students of all levels to include listening, pronunciation/speaking, reading, writing and grammar as part of the learner-based instruction.
Adapt curriculum to meet the needs of students.
Integrate technology instruction into lessons.
Track and submit student attendance.
Administer and interpret the CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System).
Attend Professional Learning Community (PLCs), staff meetings, and ABE-sponsored professional development.
* Current MN teaching license or MA in ESL, Linguistics or bilingual education.
* Bachelor’s Degree
* 1 year of teaching in adult education preferred.
